45 Life Lessons By A 90 Year Old

17 Dec

I ran across this post on StumbleUpon yesterday evening and I found it enlightening.. Not only was it filled with 45 magical mantra’s, but something about it being written by an elderly person who has lived most of their life put it in perspective. Too often we are caught up in the day to day headaches, mundane activities, and short-sighted obstacles.

Here are the 45 life lessons:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short not to enjoy it.

4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.

5. Don’t buy stuff you don’t need.

6. You don’t have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.

7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.

8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for things that matter.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.

12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye… But don’t worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.

18. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It’s never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words, ‘In five years, will this matter?’

27. Always choose Life.

28. Forgive but don’t forget.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give Time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.

35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d
grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you think you need.

42. The best is yet to come…

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.

Kim Kardashian. Heard of her? If not, I’m sure you’ve at least heard of Mr. West. Like it or not, these two icons are an item, and we have to say we are feeling their style. This is a power couple thats under a lot of speculation, but a couple that I’m secretly rooting for! Check out some of their looks!

Why I’m Thankful 21 Isn’t Forever After All

28 Jun

I kinda love the fact that I’m not 21 anymore. Trust me, turning 22 was terrible for about 70 seconds – all these thoughts kept rushing through my head, is the “peak” of my fun age finally over, as so many had warned me before? Then 70 seconds later, I decided it was all hogwash as I headed outside my room of my college apartment to take shots with my best friends. Now, a couple of years later, I think back to that girl that was 21. That girl had NO idea what life held in store for her, and that girl, like so many of you has probably changed and matured for all the RIGHT reasons.

1) I’ve Grown Up – In every sense of the word. My body has changed (praise curves!), my priorities have changed from things that aren’t worth it to wanting to spend time searching for my next career move or learning to cook. I no longer care about what people think about me, and I realize that the only happiness I’m concerned with should be mine.

2) I Can Differentiate Boys From Men – This was a huge breakthrough for me. You kiss a fair share of toads in your time (and you’ll regress here and there but pay no mind to who doesn’t matter) and that’s okay. You’ve been through a couple of bad relationships. That’s okay too. What’s important is that you’ve learned exactly what you DON’T want. With age, comes experience, comes perspective. Now when you run into that “Mr. Perfect” who turns out to be a self-absorbed hypocritical douchebag, you may waver, but unlike you’re inner 21 year old, you’re not stressing or pining away for him – why? Because you know that’s not what you want or deserve.

Let’s Have a Toast For All The Douchebags..

3) I Realize I’m Not Invincible – The quicker you realize there are consequences to every action, the better. I, like many teenagers and twenty-somethings, went through this phase where I thought I could do or say no wrong. You quickly realize that every action comes with a price, my twenty-something year old now appreciates and understands that no one is invincible and to act with responsibility.

4) I Appreciate the Power of Family & True Friendship – By your later twenties, you will have gone through a couple of friendships, some may have faltered, some may have soared, and some have remained solid as God’s green earth. Appreciating the solidity and the loyalty behind these friendships is powerful, that is your support system. You’re family is the equivalent to the Pokemon Healing Centers, you know the one where no matter what shape you’re in, no matter how you feel, how weak you are, how sad or happy you are, you come back fully charged.. You’re family rejuvenates you, they are you’re true strength and backbone, and they will always be there to fuel and heal you in anyway.

5) I Never Say Never – I just don’t believe in “never”. Life is too quickly changing, people are brought in and taken out of our lives in seconds. We’re given experiences every single hour and day to deal with. To say “never” is to constrict yourself of something you may one day decide to do. To simplify, you have only one life to live, focus on learning, try everything just once, and smile while you do it (This is where it’s appropriate to say #yolo).

party meme no regrets meme no regrets meme no regrets in life listen to your heart inspiration meme listen to heart meme someecards lifestyle blog fashion blog pretty please us blog twenty something post forever 21 post pretty please blog pretty please us blog

6) I Now Value the Power of Closure & Communication – This has more to do with maturing through your age, than your actual age itself. So many people can drop others in a second due to anger, miscommunication, or other reasons they find justifying. This isn’t strength, this is immaturity. Tossing your ego away, and picking up the phone to sort and hash through you’re feelings is necessary in any situation. Why? It’s because we realize that life is too short for any discrepancy, if a situation is not meant to happen, owe it to yourself and to others to communicate and to provide the other with closure. That’s good karma.

7) I Don’t Stand For Games Or BS. Ever. – See, 21 year old Raji simply didn’t know what games were. She thought that interaction was supposed to be simple, and everyone was on the same page. Along the way and years, Raji has learned the difference between when someone is shooting the shit with her, or plain BSing her. It’s important to learn when someones pulling your chain or being real, simply because you need to drop the former, and stick to the latter. Also, being real isn’t being rude, so if someone is proud of their blunt but rude ways, that’s some BS aka we don’t stand for that either.

8) I Don’t Believe In Regrets – The phrase “What if” shouldn’t be in your vocabulary. Agreed this may be impulsive behavior, but if you want something, go for it, jump at it, and take it. If it works, you just went after something you wanted. If it doesn’t work, you will have went after something you wanted. You won’t know until you try. Listen to your heart, and leap at full speed. no regrets meme no regrets in life listen to your heart inspiration meme listen to heart meme someecards lifestyle blog fashion blog pretty please us blog twenty something post forever 21 post pretty please blog pretty please us blog

9) I Listen To My Heart – A part of me has always listened to my heart, but my younger self also listened to the riff raff. I’ve learned in time, that the only voice that matters is yours. People who presume to be your friends or family may try to tell you what to do or give you their two hundred cents, it doesn’t matter. As an adult, you learn that you form your own opinions, you have your own interactions, and you live life the way you want to live it. Listen to your heart. It’s priceless.

Facebook, It’s Not You, It’s Me: Why Facebook Fails to Tickle Our Pickle

5 Jun

facebook facebook ipo facebook is boring facebook sucks facebook is cool pretty please blog pretty please us blog what is facebook who uses facebook how to use facebook sarcastic facebook blog sarcasm blog

Facebook, you’re hot. Really you are..

It’s just that .. well .. I don’t feel the same anymore. Once upon a time, I’d excitedly check my computer to see who added me as a friend, who wrote on my wall, or what event was going on.. even when I got my iPhone, I was razzed up – pop up notifications? Heck yea! Three people wrote on my wall .. sickkkkk!!! But that was then .. this is now. Facebook, I adore you but I think we might have to take a break .. (read: major time apart aka I am going to slore it up on different social media websites), and I’m sorry. I know you need closure, so here’s why I’m taking a step back from you:

  • Photos With 19,347,032 Likes
You know exactly what I’m talking about Facebook. The photos where if I like a picture of a little boy, someone will feed him for an extra day, or if I like a picture of a bunny it’ll happily hop forever. These photos create guilt within me, Facebook. Yesterday, I liked a photo I didn’t even like because it said “Like if you love your mom”. Obviously I love my mom, she’s a nifty creature, but I could have lived without the guilt. I now feel compelled to like these modern day chain letters, and I don’t like it one bit. It’s to the point where I scroll as fast as I can if I see a photo with 10,000 likes in fears of waking up whatever hoax it contains. Meh.
  • “Like”s Aren’t Titillating Anymore
Likes were really exciting. REALLY exciting when they first came out. I remember the first time I got 11 likes on a status. It was a status about going to the beach in LA. Yup, I would have liked it too because well, I like the beach, and I like LA. Nowadays, people change their profile photos like they change underwear hoping for new daily likes. Everyone’s magically turned into a freaking photographer, and showcase their mobile uploads as the next work of art. The worst is when I write on someones wall, they respond, I respond, and we go back and forth and like every single one of each others comments. No I take it back, the worst is that I expect the other person and vice versa to like everything. Facebook, you’ve made “liking” a wee bit played out.

  • Timeline Has Visually Impaired Me
I used to be able to go on my friends page, scroll down to see comments, photo albums, newly made friends, or any new page likes in a reasonable, fashionable order. I’m really not anal-retentive either, btw. I wake up late, hit snooze about 20 times, and fist pump Continue reading

3 Simple Steps To Make You A Better Person

23 May

Help me help you. I’m huge on introspection, which can be good or bad at times. With introspection comes careful examination of one’s habits – what is and is not working? Our generation is currently in a rush to make it to the top, to launch the next new hot start-up, we’re constantly glued to our phone, and our idea of a date is Facetime. Though technologically advanced, we lack some fundamentals, which I’ve managed to sift through. One thing I want to bring back is the air of personalization .. with friends, employers, and family. Here are three things to help make you a better person:

1) COMMUNICATE IN PERSON

This is what human interaction looks like nowadays:

Boy: Hi 😉

Girl: Hiya whats up?

Boy: Nothing. Bored. Chillin. K, time for the gym, ttyl.

Girl: Okay bye!!! 😉 🙂 (emoji) (emoji) (stupid emoji) (emoji)

Lame. And, yes, I’m judging you if you have a similar text in your phone.

texting not talking relationship advice addicted to texting stop texting as much talk to people don't text them lifestyle blog relationship blog how to be a better person pretty please blog pretty please us blog

Texting is written communication. I, being in love with writing, can respect that form of communication. However, an interaction in person is not only refreshing, but it’s personable. It’s an amazing feeling to truly listen to someones thoughts and feelings, and vice versa. When I’m on the phone, chances are I’m playing Bejeweled or checking Twitter. Texting doesn’t account for tone either, which can manage to lead to unnecessary communication. You never know who may be in need of a friend, or how good it might feel to truly vent and talk to an old friend.

2) SAY “THANK YOU”

3 Things You Must Stop Doing To Yourself Immediately

4 Apr

Disclaimer: No matter what your age, Twenty, Teenage, Forty, Seventy Year olds can benefit from this post. Unless you’re perfect, in which case STOP READING NOW.

Stop it. Stop it right now! No I mean it. Look, if you think you have everything all figured out, then don’t read any further.  You’re perfect and amazing, and no need for improvement. If you just happened to snap out of it, or are like the rest of the population, listen up, take notes, and prepare to STOP doing the following things to yourself!!!!!

stop complaining thoughtful quotes motivational quotes truth quotes motivational words stop hurting yourself things to stop doing advice for twenty something year olds advice for people pretty please us pretty please us blog prettyplease.us raji randhawa

1)  STOP Comparing!

Everyone comes from a different walk of life. Some people fight for everything they have, and others have things handed to them on a silver platter. You were dealt your card, now progress forward. Stopping to think about what others have or don’t have on you is frankly a waste of time! Somebody blatantly copies you all the time? Pity them, unoriginality is boring, and it means you’re doing something right! Pay no other mind though, and keep moving forward at all costs!

Comparisons should be nothing more than motivation. Stopping to fret is a waste of time.

2) STOP Waiting!  Continue reading

Let’s face it. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’re aware of The Hunger Games. For those of you who shun all things pop culture or are late bloomers, The Hunger Games is a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world, where Katniss Everdeen, age 16, lives in Panem (a country made up what used to be North America). In Panem, there are 12 districts and the Capital, which holds supreme ruling, power, and jurisdiction over all other districts. The Hunger Games are an annual event where 1 boy and 1 girl from each of the districts is chosen by a lottery system, where they will fight to the death. This is going to be the next big thing and WE CAN FEEL IT! Written by Suzanne Collins (click here to buy the book!), The Hunger Games is coming to a theatre near YOU on March 23, 2012.

It is time to meet the cast (the very good looking cast, may we add)!
